He will get better…..
I have a very, very competitive boy in my room. He has other issues (he’s the puppet eater), but he has a habit of cheating to win. He is good at games – trouble and Candyland are his favorites, but he either wins all the time or calls people names when they win. We have been working very hard on good sportsmanship. I noticed one of his cheating techniques is that he takes his turn far more often than anyone else. If three friends are playing and the order should be Child A, child B, child C, A, B, C, etc. it goes A, B, A, C, A, B, A… with A being this child. If I sit near by and watch, it happens less often, and with sneakier looks. Another is that he digs through the deck of cards, looking for the ones that will benefit his position.
Today I lost it though, when I caught him ‘shuffling’ the Candyland cards and stashing all the pink ones under his leg. These are the cards that let you jump ahead in the game. When he saw I was looking at him he tried sneaking them back, but it was too late. Mrs. Sommerer put all the pink cards in a cabinet and spent all of center time refereeing the game, teaching them how to say, “Your turn” to the person who was supposed to go next.
He won one game and lost four.
Let’s just watch a little Ralph.
We’ve had some bad weather today. It was a no-school day for local schools, but the CDC was open. I am always amped up at the start but a bit wiped at then end. So, instead of a story, let’s just watch Ralph being an idiot. This was a while back when he was losing his mind when I was playing Candy Crush reading in bed. I captured the last bit of the frenzy.
Auction & food
Lloyd’s brother Aaron is up visiting. He went to Trivia Noght with Lloyd on Friday because I wasn’t up to it. Saturday morning we went to a surplus auction, then lunch in Lincoln, then home for naps, then went to dinner with Sam & the family. It was a good day.
This post was better the first time, but something crashed and I lost half of it. Grrrr……
Happy Birthday, Sam!
That is all. 🙂
Only an ‘after’
I’ve been trying to take care of some loose ends at work and have been doing a terrible job of it. Oh well, slight forward motion is better than none, except when it means that in the future you have to undo the half-***ed job you just did, so maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.
When we designed the building, we knew there was a little nook in one of the toddler rooms that was a supervision issue. No big deal – we just put up a gate. A very, very expensive made-by-Amish-people gate.
It has worked out alright, except that this year’s group can’t seem to keep their hands off it. They try to climb it or use it like a ladder. Our director was looking into ordering something different, but I convinced her to let me Lauren it. Four strips of posterboard and an old mirror later and….
Eventually the paper strips should be interesting cloth weavings, but this has been working out pretty well.
Also, there is a cabinet that is in the corner. It wasn’t meant to go there, we just had an extra. It’s not properly installed yet, and hasn’t been for months. Tonight I checked behind its base and there were soooo many toys that were stuck there. I took them out, then temporarily ‘attached’ some baseboard. I won’t go into the details, but it involved some screws, washers, duct tape and paint so that I wouldn’t actually glue the stuff or poke holes in it.
Good enough.
