So, maybe I can’t make art like my friends, but I sure can mount it on stuff from Hobby Lobby.
At the Lincoln Lutheran gala I saw a painting of Jesus holding a baby and loved it! I had several glasses of wine and told Lloyd to bid all our money on it. Now it is mine. It is called “I knew you” by Jordan Blake, and is based on Jeremiah 1:5.
I took it to school to show the children and had them draw their own versions.
They were hilarious! These are just a few:
I want to hang it at the center. Lloyd insisted that it should be framed, but I thought that would make it a little too precious for me. I love the bumpy colors of the oil paint and didn’t want it to be behind glass. At Hobby Lobby, they had a surprisingly appropriate alternative! (Banner picture) It would need some modification, though.
I left some of the words peeking out in case someone in the future ever found them. You’ll see later that that will never happen.
I wanted to have the Bible verse on there so I looked into ordering some lettering. As it turns out, if you do the ‘weeding’ yourself (peeling off the extra vinyl), you save 60%. Since this is the kind of stuff I love to do, I went that route.
Ok, let’s assemble this thing. I put gobs of Liquid Nails on the back (it will never come off) and ‘Laurened’ the measuring (note my spacers).
The lettering went on fairly well, too. (I ordered doubles in case I messed up, but happily didn’t need them.)
Viola! It’s ready for school!
UPDATE: It’s up! I love it! http://laurenandlloyd.com/2018/04/16/its-up/
