As we were getting ready for church, I was brushing my teeth and Lloyd was at the top of the stairs, looking out the window and making up a song: “Squirrel Train, Squirrel Train, come and see the squirrel train…” then he got more insistent: “Four squirrel train! Four squirrel train! Come and see it!” Turns out he was actually looking at four squirrels zipping around the maple tree. By the time I spit out my toothpaste and got to the windows, they had disappeared.
We watched for a long time and they never came out. I said, “We never look at the other side of that tree. Wouldn’t it be funny if there was a big hole in it?”
Ummmmm…… as it turns out….
Oh. Oh, dear.
The big hole is just a playground. The little hole:
….actually has a nest in it. This might be a problem.
If we have to chop down this tree, I am leaving the stump and putting a tree house up high.

Aww… squirrels. We don’t have those in Maui. We only have mongooses. They don’t live in trees though. But rats do. I just found that out. They like to make nests in coconut trees.
