OK, let’s get back to the toilet seat. Earlier in the week we had a tornado drill during the morning. As we were in the hallway, I remembered how at the old building occasionally we would be stuck in the basement because the tornado warning would be for the entire county even though the actual storm was just in a corner of it. Of course we did just fine, but we did have to find ways to pass the time. Usually it was just reading books. That’s not a problem since our children’s library is in the basement. At the old building we didn’t have a bathroom downstairs. We don’t have one at this building either.
The disaster preparedness portion of my brain a little up like a lightbulb. I just needed to get one of those toilet seats that snaps onto a 5 gallon bucket. After I bought it, then I realized that little tiny children can’t actually sit up on a 5 gallon bucket. Fortunately I found a 3 gallon bucket amongst the building materials in the basement.
It is filled with bathroom-related stuff.
I am in the process of getting materials ready for us to have on hand at all times. Each classroom has an emergency backpack that they carry when their class moves from place to place, but I’m getting lights and extra diapers and all that kind of stuff in one place where it can be easily accessed.
It’s like camping!

We talked about toilets like that right after the missile scare here. Then we decided that if a missile struck, toilets wouldn’t matter.

It’s like the winter emergency kit that all Minnesotans carry ALL YEAR LONG but Nebraska style…for young children.
