Now that the Pesters are safely back from Maui, I can tell you the worm story. We were on deck to feed the cats and bring in the mail starting Monday. Things seemed pretty normal, but on Tuesday there was a little barf. Also a little barf on Wednesday through Friday, but the cats were chipper and seemed just fine.
On Saturday, we stopped by before going to the house and there was…. um, a substantial amount of barf. To be fair, I hadn’t checked the basement very thoroughly before, so some of it could have been there for a while. In one spot, the stomach acid had damaged the latex paint on the floor. Warning: I have a photo.
Ready?
It’s just the floor.
Not barf.
Here goes.
Up in the living room, there was some watery barf with a thing that looked like a noodle. I was pretty sure it was a tapeworm, but Lloyd – with his farm knowledge – wondered if it might be an animal intestine. The day before, Batman tried to give me a robin he just caught (I am aware of the humor), so that was possible. The ‘noodle’ went into a baggie and into the freezer.
At the surplus auction, we looked at the photo more closely and yeah – that thing was a tapeworm. Then there was some agonizing – with no good advice from Sam – about whether or not to tell Beth. We did. She took it well. I went to buy some tapeworm dewormer and gave a pill (wrapped in American cheese which they gulped down with zero problem) to each cat. After reading way more than I ever wanted to about how deworming medicine works, I really hoped they would poop in the litter box instead of outside because I wanted to see some results, but no.
I told you that this was going to be gross.
Did you want to see the worm?
Are you sure?
