October 20, 2018

Well, Lloyd surprised me again. We had two days of teachers’ conference, and since it was an early out on Friday, he was in cahoots with Sam to get me to the campsite. While the timeline did not work out exactly as planned (there was some misunderstanding between the cahooters), the trip was lovely.

We got to the lake around 4:00 – so early! The temperature was in the low 70’s and felt amazing. I forgot that I had bought two hammocks, and Lloyd was wise enough to pack them. As it turns out, they fit pretty well on the ends of the picnic shelters. I set Lloyd up for some reading and swaying:

He packed the tent, but I thought maybe we could try hammock camping. You have to put a pad underneath you or you’ll freeze, and luckily we had the wearable sleeping bags, too. After a fantastic campfire, we went to our respective hammocks. Lloyd zonked out, and I stared at the moon and listened to the leaves rustle in the moonlight. It was so peaceful. Until my brain started to bug me. “Lloyd is going to get cold. He’s going to get sick from being out all night. What is that creaking sound? Oh, it’s the hammock. Is a deer going to try and get in this hammock with me like Ralph does?” I gave up and made Lloyd get in the tent with me.

In the morning, it was good and cold. After a good fire and breakfast, Lloyd got to read a little more:

When the fire died down, it was warm enough for a little more hammock reading for everyone. What a lovely mini-vacation, Lloyd. Thank you very much! 🙂

What a wonderful way to get outside…and stay there!

I don’t think I’ve ever slept a night in a hammock. Maybe I should add that to my List. Are hammocks comfortable enough for sleeping?

What a fantastic fall getaway! Congrats to the cahoot-ers for getting it planned. And good on you, Lauren, for taking some time off to relax.
