It was a glorious sunny day, and after nap I showed some of the children the gorgeous shadows on the snow. I thought it mi*t be interesting to time-lapse their movement, since we had recently learned about the solar system.
I set up the iPad, but then started the conversation about the real world. (It’s useful to know that there are some construction materials out back.)
Me: “See that bit of tubing sticking out of the ground? It’s in the sun now, but in a little bit it will be in the tree’s shadow?”
Children, crowding around the iPad: “What?”
Me: “Out there. On the ground. Where I’m pointing”
Children, pressing closer to the iPad: “Where?”
Me: “Out. There. In the WORLD.” (Tapping glass)
Children: “What?”
Me: Shuts iPad with a snap.

Ha! The “real world”? You’re such a dinosaur 😉
Just the other week I told my students that they were turning me into a grumpy old man because I’m always on their backs about manners.
