It’s time for a New Year’s Resolutions post. I am well aware that, as in many past years, my good intentions will wane after a bit, but I’m still gung-ho for establishing some new habits.
At work, I have a notebook where I write down everything that needs to be accomplished for the day, both in and out of the classroom. I make a little square beside each item because it’s more satisfying to make an ‘x’ in the box rather than cross the item off the list. When I go home, I’m pretty satisfied if 80% of the items are accomplished. The next day I might re-write the unfinished items on the ‘today’ page, or realize that they don’t really need to get done. It’s a workable system for me.
I wondered about a system like that for home. I have some habits that need to be established – like the stuff I’m supposed to do to care for my dry eyes – and some big projects that I’d like to accomplish this year. I spent the past three years pretty invested at work, so I think I may channel some of that energy into some home projects.
For the big projects, I’ve broken them down into tiny tasks. (I want to post about a couple of those tasks, so I figured I’d better explain the system.) My thought is that even if I don’t get the whole project done this year, I’ll be that much closer to it for next year. As you can see, the bar is set super-low. If I get one Big Project done this year, I will consider it a success!
Here’s to a stab at making progress:
You’ll probably get sick of those pages over the next few days, but hey – that’s what I’ve got going on. 🙂

Yeah! Go Lauren! I hope you get all your resolutions done.
Mine was to eat more protein. I haven’t done a great job of it yet, but you’re inspiring me.

Rehome 5 things… Amen to that! It is an ongoing issue in my life.
How do you define “one weird chore”?
Lauren says
Something that wouldn’t be on the list of ‘standard’ things to make the house better. Last week I had two: I moved the garlic to that jar and I bought and replaced the oven light. Not too shabby!

I’m not making to-do list! Uumh, just did.
