Beth and Harold had a tree trimming company come to their house and take out some trees, and they were also able to come to our house and trim up our buckeye and the big pin oak. My heart started beating wildly when I came home and saw all the branches in the yard. Firewood!!
So, after dinner we decided to roast some marshmallows on those branches. Never minding the fact that it was beginning to sprinkle, we started a fire. Brad and Beth had some umbrellas, but I got an ‘instant canopy’ from the basement that took several minutes to assemble…. in a downpour.
It was awesome. I got to wear my raincoat with whales inside!
The whole experience was like cramming a week of bad camping into half an hour. We huddled by a smokey fire while rain dribbled down Brad’s back and into his pants. We roasted marshmallows over a pathetic flame while I held a smoke-filled umbrella over the marshmallows so they wouldn’t get soggy. We were cold. As my sister says, “Good stories never come from happy times.”
I tried to make a Fire Saver that was actually quite successful. After Beth and Tim went home and Lloyd and Brad were catatonic in front of the t.v., I had perfect marshmallow coals.
Those bricks are magic.
