There and back again

April 15, 2007 by Lauren 16 Comments

Well, it wasn’t Amsterdam, but it was something.  This weekend we went to Lloyd’s folks’ house for the dinner/auction for their new lutheran high school.  On the way down, our odometer had a special moment:

pretty pattern

Cousin Sam and Rachel were at the auction!  Sam was no fun to talk to -since he reads the website he already knew everything Lloyd was going to say.  Lloyd: “Hey, let me tell you about our middle school fun night.”  Sam: “I already know.”  Lloyd: “Hey, we made fun of Brad!”  Sam: “I know.”  Lloyd: “Have you seen my cat eat an avocado?”  Sam: “How dreary.”  Then Sam took hold of Aaron’s (much nicer than ours) camera and shot everybody.

Little Jimmy Olson

This is the third year for the auction.  The school, Calvary is just starting out – 22 students, I believe.  Anyway, they had a nice turnout for the evening, but their auctioneer got very excited – he was shouting into the microphone the whole time.  It was loud.

Poor Rachel

I preferred the silent auction part.  The hosts were really smart and provided free beer and wine with dinner, so by the end, I was bidding left and right.  Now I own some very lovely Fiestaware platters, and I think maybe somebody’s car.  Any bets on how long before we break the platters?

And for our return trip, a numeric palendrome:

awwww....

A new Lutheran high school in Honey Creek? Jefferson City?

Cool odometer readings! Did you crash while taking the picture? Or is that tomorrow’s post?

It’s in Jefferson City. They are using the classrooms in one of the churches for now. They have 23 9th and 10th graders and will probably not build until they have all 4 grades. Mr. Engelbrecht just accepted a call to be their Executive Director/Principal.

Wow!! The Engelbrecht’s are headed back to MO? My mom’s going to be sad – she and Becky got together from time to time. Sam, it’s good to see you! 🙂

My grandmother was a Engelbrecht daughter of John and Nannie. She had several brothers and sisters; Julia, Charles, Mary (My grandmother), Edith, William, Eddie, and Emma. They were all from Honey Creek. Edith and Emma married and lived in the Brazito, MO area. Emma was married to Herb Popp. I was wondering if there is any connection.

If you want to contact John Engelbrecht directly, you can find information about the high school here:

          http://www.calvarylhs.org/

And, in the contacts section there is information about how to contact him. Wouldn’t it be great to make that connection?

This is exactly the sort of question that gives meaning to the vast amount of ‘begat’ information that my dad has accumulated.

I called him, and will post his reply tomorrow. It turned out to be a bit long for the comments.

No crashing, but the second picture is from the car we bought at the auction.

(I’m fine. How are you? Just thought I’d add a few word palindromes.)

What’s a palendrome? Never heard that word before! See, there are no doubts whatever that you really are smarter than your dad!

If I spelled it correctly, it’s a phrase or word that is the same backwards and forwards. The only one I can think of is ‘A man, a plan, a canal, panama.’ I’m not smarter than you, Dad, I just have more tricks up my sleeve! 🙂

Holy cow, Peggy. I can’t believe I didn’t get those. Dad, Peggy has a series of them up there! See – not smart.
