Well, I would call our sheet experiment a grand success! Today we hit a high of 91 degrees, and the upstairs stayed quite cool. I took some pictures tonight to show the 4 – 5 degree gain (loss?) that a bit of cloth made! By the way, we upgraded to a flat sheet – more corner coverage.
(I think I get my ‘watching the temperature’ interest from my dad. I grew up in western Colorado where it was dry, and we didn’t have central air conditioning. We would open windows at night and close them the next morning in the summers, and in winter he would manually turn the heat down at night and up in the morning. Let’s hear it for programmable thermostats of today – it’s like having Dad around!)

Maybe we could try something other than a sheet. What if we used aluminum foil? That could be cool. It would be like living in a space ship! Plus, there’d be the constant danger of scratching yourself on a pointy edge when you pass through it.
Lauren says
Why stop at aluminum foil? Why not just sheet metal? Then we’d be guaranteed scratches and cuts!! Then we could use magnets like everyone’s raving about.

Now we must engineer such a feat in the Pester house.

Excellent job Lauren! And I love the digital gadget!
Maybe a heavy blanket would keep even more cold air in … or a large piece of skin. Skin is one of the best materials for insulation & temperature regulation. (sorry, been watching too many scarey movies lately)

I have the same trouble with our basement (where the girls sleep) being cold and upstairs (where I sleep) being warm. (Lauren already knows where we all sleep since she is my only true friend who has come to see us.) Anyway, I put a big directional fan at the bottom of the stairs blowing up. This has worked very well! More even temp and the AC doesn’t run nearly so much.

Yes, I am the True Friend!!!! 🙂
