It was great to not have to go to Lloyd’s school this Saturday! I got some stuff done around here, read a little, and then we went to Omaha for ukulele night. It was a tiny group this month, so we’re worried that people might be giving up. I hope that next month we’re back up in numbers.
We didn’t stick around for eating together aferward, because I needed to run some errands (read: go to Target), and then we came right back home. I drove, and got kind of sleepy as we neared Seward. I remembered that I didn’t buy toothpaste, and in my dreamy state I remembered a children’s book from when I was little about a boy who makes his own toothpaste. Trying to remember the details woke me right up! I searched for the title when I got home, so here is the book that saved our lives tonight:
I think Brad should have this book. You can read a little excerpt from it here.

The book I search for on and off is called “The Little Green Goblin”. I read it at my Grandpa’s house when I was a kid. My mom has given me the copy I read, but somehow the last chapter is now missing. I look for a whole one whenever I go into used book stores.

It looks like my comment yesterday didn’t post. I found the little green goblin book on line at a bookstore just an hour away from Brad, Chesapeake City or something

Since 1992 I’ve been on the hunt for the English version of “Hurra, wir machen ein Picknick!” by Mercer Mayer. I bought it on choir tour in Germany and have not been able to find it in the States. What is up with that?!
Lauren says
‘Hurray, we’re on a picnic’? Is that right? We’ll all begin the search for these lost books!
Peggy says
I didn’t have any books as a kid ….
Lauren says
Really?
Peggy says
No, I had books … I always liked “The Five Chinese Brothers”. That’s a classic isn’t it?
Lauren says
I think you meant “Five Guys” -- the hamburger place.
Karla says
Oh, I had forgotten all about that one! Good thing I have a coupon for Borders! Thanks Peggy!! 😀
Karla says
Oh, I’ve got one! We had a book growing up that was essentially the story of the boy who cried wolf, but set in Japan and someone fell in a well. This poor kid had a really long name and boy who saw him fall was running all over trying to get someone to rescue him, but he had to say the whole name. Tiki Tiki Tembo was the first fourth of his name. Anybody heard of it and remember the name?
Lauren says
That Tiki Tiki Tembo sounds familiar. It also reminds me of Ricki Ticki Tavi -- that movie scared the pants off me as a kid.
Beth says
Tiki Tiki Tembo no sa rembo chari bari ruchi pip peri pembo
Karla says
That’s his full name!! Is that the name of the book?
Karla says
I just found out that the book is in stock at my local Borders. Thanks Beth!
