I regret not taking a picture a couple of days ago, when I thought I had completely missed a tier of branches on my fake tree, but it turned out they just didn’t light up anymore. Today, it got worse. The complete middle third of the tree is kaput. I ain’t fixin’ it.
Ok, I cracked myself up when I looked at the photo – it looks MUCH more noticeable in a picture. When I’m in the living room I look at the t.v.
Tomorrow’s Christmas Eve – comin’ up on Jesus’ birthday! My question to you is: What’s your favorite Christmas tradition or memory? I’ll start: My dad is a pastor, and had another congregation in a town a half-hour away. We’d have our Christmas Eve service (concluded with the traditional paper bag of an orange, some peanuts, and some Russel Stover’s candies), then drive to Paonia to sit through the same service put on by kids I didn’t know, then we’d drive home. We would have to sit in the car in the driveway while Dad went in to ‘see if the furnace’ was on, then we’d go in to see all those presents from Santa!! We were a family of Christmas Eve openers, since Dad had to preach in the morning. (Nowadays I open a present whenever I want to – nobody can tell me what to do! Nobody!! Mmmmmmuuuuahahahahah!!!)
Ok, share the memories!

Haha. We did Christmas Eve, too. Our mom had to “get a glass of wine” before we could see our presents from Santa.

I guess Santa visited all you central time people on Christmas Eve. He didn’t make it to the east coast until Christmas morning. We used to put our live tree in the stand on Christmas Eve & Santa would decorate it. I loved coming down the stairs in the morning & seeing the lit tree with all the presents under it. And he left a present on the end of my bed to. What a guy!

Santa came on Christmas Eve for us, too. We would go to our Children’s Christmas service (complete with bag of peanuts, orange, and candy), then Santa would leave the presents by the tree. Before we left for the service, Mom would “forget something” and have to run inside for a bit. She always came back with cookie crumbs on her lips and a milk mustache. Hmmm. . .
Peggy says
Oh & by the way … don’t fret about the lights on your tree … it just isn’t Christmas unless there’s a few strands of lights out somewhere … one whole side of my house outside is dark & apparently no one’s fixin’ it …

Santa came on Christmas morning at our house. WHich is, of course, the proper time for him to come.

Family gift exchange on Christmas eve, Santa’s gift on Christmas morning!
Lauren says
Perhaps Santa came so late to your houses because you were on the naughty/nice fence and he was waffling about what to do.
Beth says
Amen to that!

It’s the big joke that our tradition was not having any traditions. When I was in lower grade school, we would open presents on Christmas Eve day (whenever it would fit in), go to the Christmas program at church that evening, and before the butt-crack of dawn on Christmas morning we starting the 12 hour car ride to Gramma’s house in Michigan. When I got older and all my sisters were in high school or older, I was yanked out of school early so we could travel before Christmas day.
Santa never visited our house… Does that mean we were always on the naughty list?

I didn’t want to say anything….
