Remember the birds?

Journal, Lauren

Remember back when i said we were going to sew the birds? Well, we did, and here they are. There are few things more fun, and slightly dangerous, than sewing with preschoolers. I hold the cloth and let them press down on the sewing machine pedal with their hands. We practice beforehand ‘stop when I say stop’, but it doesn’t really matter – they get so excited with the power of making that big machine bend to their will I have to say ‘stop – stop – STOP!!’ the first time they do it. It’s awesome.

fly away, little birdies!

Here’s a close-up. The beaks look blunted, but trust me -it was the only way to make it work. Sure, it’s shoddy workmanship, but I’m all about making things up as you go along… and speed. “We’ve got twenty of these to do, people! Let’s make quota!”

    It’s for the birds!
    Sorry about that, Lauren

It’s like you have your own little sweatshop. You should teach the kids to make inexpensive clothing, then offer it to large corporations.

There’s a 2 year old girl in my house who thinks your birds are “cuuuuuute, mommy!” So, it appears you really know your target market. 🙂

LOVE THEM!! Is it embarrassing to admit that I would like to make one of these little fellas. They’re like little stuffed animals … that resemble perogies.
