Tomorrow night we’re having an open house to celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week. We’ve been asking families to contribute an easy recipe that we can share in a cookbook, and in addition to passing out cookbooks we’re going to serve a couple of recipes as snacks. My guys made Jack’s chocolate cake today, and tomorrow they’ll make Alexandra’s banana-chocolate chip muffins, but for the sake of speed, I made Hannah’s Snicker cake at home tonight.
It looks awesome, and I hope it tastes alright. Cake doesn’t have the same appeal for me as tiny pie at the moment, so I think this guy is safe until tomorrow.
If you want the recipe, here you go. You need:
1 box German chocolate cake
1 14 oz. package caramels
1 stick butter
1/3 cup milk
3/4 cup chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Prepare cake mix as directed on package (you’ll need eggs and oil for that). Pour half of batter into greased 9X13 pan. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Melt caramels, milk & butter in microwave. Remove cake from oven and pour caramel mixture over it. Top with chocolate chips and pecans. Dot with remaining batter and return cake to oven at 250 for 20 minutes, turn to 350 for 10 minutes.

I have that same recipe for brownies (less liquid).
1 box German Chocolate cake mix
1 sm can evaporated milk
3/4 c butter, melted
1 c chocolate chips
14 oz caramels
1 c nuts, (optional)
Preheated oven to 350* (not optional)
Combine cake mix, melted butter, and 1/2 can evaporated milk. Take 1/2 of mixture and spread into 9 x 13 pan. Bake for 6 minutes.
Melt caramels with 1/2 can evaporated milk. On baked batter, spread chips and nuts. Pour caramel over, then drop by spoonfuls the remaining cake mixture. Bake for 20 minutes.
It’s yummy!!
