Water, water everywhere

June 8, 2008 by Lauren 9 Comments

It’s been a wet couple of weeks around these parts. All the storms have brought rain that has flooded the creeks and rivers. We have little floods every so often, but this one is a doozy. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I went out to Wal-Mart Saturday morning. Here’s the parking lot to Orscheln’s – right by the Big Blue River.

This is just south of there. That’s not a lake – that’s somebody’s corn field. Can you see the telephone poles?

I think I’ve mentioned the Ag Pavillion before. There was a wedding reception scheduled to be held there on Saturday. Um, didn’t happen.

The couple was also supposed to be married in a church in the town of Ulysses, but the church was wrecked by a tornado. Nothing like omens, huh? They found other accommodations, and we saw the wedding party stop by to look at the flood.

Can’t dance in that.

Lastly, this photo is just for irony.

Holy guacamole! We had a bunch of rain here too, but it didn’t do THAT. We’re dealing with beastly heat right now. Heat index of 105 today and tomorrow.

Oh, and I would NOT go through with the wedding if those things happened to me. Take the hint, people.

Hee hee – we heard a guy talking about it down by the Ag Pavilion. He said, “If those two have airplane tickets for the honeymoon, they’d better cash them in.”

I like how the trucks in the parking lot are parked right up to the water. Like it couldn’t possibly go any higher.

And, they even parked in the properly designated spaces, between the yellow lines, just like always. Funny.

      Those farmers are good people.

They’re just parked there for scale.

Now now let’s not be so negative. The happy couple could always say their love is so strong, it could blow down a building or that they were flooded with joy on this grand occasion.

Do any stores still have hip waders in stock, or as they all sold out? I would think those and swim fins would be pretty hot sellers right now.

I swear, I wish I could type as fast as I think. “Do any stores still have hip waders in stock, or are theyall sold out?”

      Thanks. I feel better now.
