Well, it was a wonderful day. I’m having trouble getting my camera to load to this computer, so I’ll add pictures tomorrow.
The morning started off with gathering on our float – a huge flatbed trailer with haybales and a suspiciously large beverage pond strapped on top. I thought we’d be having refreshments while we rode, but no. The pond was filled with ammo. Did you know that the sole purpose of having reunion floats in a parade is so that water fights can happen? I knew there was supposed to be a little splashing, but this was incredible! Water balloons, super soakers, hoses (from the street) and at the end the fire trucks hosed us down. They offered ponchos to us at the start of the parade, but it didn’t matter. We were soaked by the end. It was awesome!
Next they had booths in the park, and Mom, Dad and Lloyd and I had a picnic lunch. Then we walked through my old middle school that has been turned into a performing arts center. (The lockers are still there, though.) That was strange.
After a nap and a shower, Lloyd and I went up to the big dinner at Devil’s Thumb Golf Course. The food was delicious, and it was so fun to talk to everyone! We left early because I’m an old lady and get tired easily. Sorry this isn’t more entertaining but it’s late and I’m sleepy. I’ll fix it tomorrow. or not.
Ok, the camera is up and running. If you’d like to see a video my Dad took of the float going by, click here! Here are some photos:
This is when we were all loaded up on the float.
Off to the parade route.
The view from the float. My mom is in the yellow tank top holding a hat. Dad is in the white shirt behind here with the camera in front of his face. Lloyd is invisible. That’s our theater! Fancy, eh?
I’m not in this picture, but you can see how well-armed everyone is.
Notice the tank for the water, and the dripping wet alumni.
That’s my friend Tricia’s stitches. It’s blurry, but I told her I’d post the picture. You’re welcome, Trish.
This is from Friday night. That’s Jill, Gail, me and Tricia (and one of her cute twin boys).
I hope you have a picture of the water fight… It sounds like great fun!
What kind of parade was this? Was it just for the reunion, or did it have another purpose?
This was the Deltarado Days parade. Sort of like the 4th of July in Seward, but without the Cech Queens (did I spell “Cech” right?). There were politicians in the parade, but I didn’t know any of them, so it wasn’t any fun, and Lauren was on a float, so she couldn’t make out with any of them.
We stayed to the party until 10pm, and I met a lot of neat people.
Czeck….
Drats, that’s supposed to be Czech.
And that’s what Lloyd did on his summer vacation. The end.
Hey, I saw someone that looked like Londa (Llonda?) from our floor freshman year. That reminded me that you and Patrice went to high school together. Was she there? How is she?
Patrice wasn’t there, which was disappointing. Lots of people asked about her whereabouts. She’s in Valparasio Indiana now.
SERIOUSLY?!?!? That’s just down the road from me! That’s where I get my hair cut for $35 a pop!
Hey Lauren-
Was great seeing you and meeting Lloyd!! Have a safe trip home and glad you are stopping halfway for a hotel stay!! 🙂
Right back at ya! Tell your husband he was a complete trooper through it all!
Hey! I resemble some of those people in the pictures! It was sooo great to see you, now I have a reason to go to Nebraska! Have a safe trip and enjoy your hotel in Denver.
Thank you! You guys were just a hoot to see! Tell Robert he’s not as anti-social as I thought he’d be. 🙂
