It’s homecoming week at Lloyd’s school, and today was Superhero day. Fortunately, we’ve had a costume waiting in the wings for years. Unfortunately, Lloyd’s secret identity has been compromised. Mild-mannered Lloyd Sommerer is ever vigilant for discipline problems in the classroom. Oh no! There’s trouble! Blurry trouble! Whenever there’s trouble, he’s there on the double! It’s SuperLloyd! So, how did he come to own this outfit? I’ll let him tell you in his own words:
Well, it came about a few years ago. I was teaching an all girl programming class. Yes, you read that right. All girls, all the time. Well, it was a fun class, and they seemed to not mind it so much either. Toward the end of the class they got together over a weekend and everyone in the class made pretty, pink “Programming Chick” t-shirts. They made one for me too (programming chick instructor) and said that everyone was going to wear them on Tuesday. Now, I’m pretty stuck in my ways. Every day I wear khaki pants, a blue shirt and a tie (and steel toed boots). It makes my life easy in the morning. No thinking necessary. Specifically, I do not wear pink t-shirts. How could I teach in a pink t-shirt? And yet, how could I let down the programming chicks. Lauren came up with the answer. They all looked disappointed when I came in, and didn’t look too very much happier when I pointed out that I had a pink tie on. But they brightened up when I ripped my shirt off and relieved that I too was a programming chick.
