One of my pet peeves is how Christmas seems to be coming earlier and earlier. Seriously, the day after Halloween WalMart was playing Bing Crosby. *sigh*
But walking through Hobby Town today, I couldn’t resist this.
Ok, after playing with it putting it together, I realized that this would be much better suited for the school-age room. This things has a million little pieces that would just get lost in my room, but it’s pretty dnag cool. (Plus the stable is made from cardboard and would never survive preschoolers.)
One question, though: Don’t you think the angel seems more like Tinkerbell with a wand?

Hey Lauren,
I have some of these little toys too! I have a lady with a vacuum cleaner, and I just bought two medieval dudes with armor and weaponry. When I had friends down in Antarctica, I sent them the set with the guy with skis and a sled and a little tiny tent. They set it up and took photos on the ice.
Deanne says
Friends down in Antarctica? Wow… talk about 6 degrees of separation.
Lauren says
That’s hilarious! Do you still have the pictures?
Brad says
That looks like a fun playset, but where are the Lego spacemen?

I was looking for something just like this when my kids were little. I always thought that the best thing for them would be to play with the nativity scene. I hate when it’s too special to touch or even breathe on. Eventually, when we went years without a nativity scene because I never found this wonderful one, I bought a cheap porcelain one. Not a chip (yet), but plenty of touching. You see, our wise guys don’t actually arrive until Epiphany. So they have to travel all the way across the room to get there. If we had more space, we’d set up little towns for them to visit on their way.

Fisher Price makes one now in their “Little People” series of toys. The stable even plays “Away in a Manger” when you put the angel on top. It’s awesome.

That’s what I thought this was at first glance… I keep wanting to get that set for Anna, but just haven’t gotten around to it yet. If I wait much longer, she’ll be in her 20s when I get it and then she’ll look at me funny.
Beth says
I wish for a big pile of money.
(Oh, and I think the angel would be less tinker-bell-ish if she wasn’t TINY. Why do you think she’s so small compared to the rest? I always think of angels being big. Big enough to step in front of speeding semi trucks and save people. Big.)

We have 2 radio stations here that started playing Christmas songs all day every day the day after Halloween.

Mmmm That makes me want to get out my Bare Naked Ladies Christmas CD. But overall I hate Christmas music this early. The department store that I used to moonlight at starts to get out the Christmas decorations and merchandise right after Labor Day. Christmas music will start at the big sale they’re having on Saturday.

I LOVE Christmas music…but I agree, not yet! But it’s almost time to pull out good ‘ol Jim Nabors!! YEA!!!!

I didn’t know that Bethlehem was so cold at night!

We started practicing Christmas music at hand bells practice yesterday. I gave me the jibblies because I haven’t start shopping yet. Has anyone else started theirs?

We started practicing Christmas music with my kids about three weeks ago. Some of the parents came in to my room and said, “Really, already! Little Jill is going all around the house sing Christmas songs already!” Ha ha ha, my evil plan unfolds! Watch out all you parents!
Lauren says
I’m such a hypocrite -- we started practicing our Christmas music today, but to be fair -- our Christmas celebration is December 1st. That’s 12 more days of practice.

Ummm, I’m done and have been for a month.
BUT, in my defense, my family celebrates in MO over Thanksgiving, so I had to be prepared for that. And since I’m having a baby on 12-2, I can’t travel over Thanksgiving. My mom came from MI to babysit in early October so I sent her home with all my presents for family. This way she can bring my goodies with her to Thanksgiving on my behalf.

We have that same set but no wisemen and no camel. And considering the large numbers of other accessories, probably a lot of other things are missing too. Playmobil rocks. What other toy company offers a hazmat team? (My brother-in-law LOVED it.)
Vera says
That looks like a really cute set! We don’t have any nativity set here at home because we have nowhere to put it. Maybe this year I should find one that will fit right in here (somewhere).
