A glass of music, hold the ice

January 18, 2010

This is not my idea, I came across it here It is surprisingly satisfying to turn Lloyd’s iPhone on, set it to play a song, then put it in a giant mug and watch him gasp in horror.

Looks dangerous, no?

“There’s no coffee, only amplified sound!” I shouted as he throttled me, a’la Homer & Bart.

He still has just Christmas music on his phone.

He relaxed a little, and was surprised by the volume. It’s not spectacular, but it’s louder. He said I should record the two different levels in Garage band and download it so you could hear the difference. I gave him my best ‘Are-you-kidding-me-it’s-time-for-bed-and-I-have-to-do-this-post-before-I-can-sleep’ glare and he quieted right down. (It was that or throttle him.)

It’s helpful to have a glass or mug that has sloped sides, but not absolutely necessary. I tried it with a little glass and some headphones (the above photo), and the result was a pleasant, charming, and yes – louder, sound.

Try it! Not with coffee, though, or Lloyd’ll getcha.

Note to LLoyd: When you are running around like crazy, looking for your phone one day in the future…don’t forget to check all the mugs, er…amplifiers in your house.

    Heh. That’s cool. It’s an iPhone megaphone. A meg-iPhone?

  3. Karla Said on:

Hmmm, we usually just turn on iTunes on the computer…

Or get an otter box case for the iphone so that you can submerge it in coffee. Although it probably wouldn’t amplify as well.
