Well, we’ve been to McCook and back, and lived to tell the tale. It was uneventful – Lloyd met with his Republican friends and they did some stuff, I looked around downtown McCook and went to their Wal-Mart. We were back on the road toward home by noon.
The meeting was 3 1/2 hours away and we didn’t want to leave the house at 4:30 a.m., so we drove to North Platte on Friday night and stayed in a hotel. *sigh* Priceline done us wrong, wrong, wrong. We stayed at a Ramada that was just shy of horrible. The bed itself was nice – good mattress, very clean bedding, and 4 pillows per bed (we hogged all 8 so I could sleep at an angle).
The room itself? Oh – I couldn’t take pictures of it, it was so sad. They had vinyl wallpaper that was literally peeling off in several spots. It was just very, very sad looking. Oh, well.
Sidebar that is relevant to the story later: You should know that whenever we stay at a hotel, I bring my own shampoo and conditioner, and I only open one bar of soap, use it for both the sink and also the shower, then take the used bar of soap home. (I used to work at a hotel, and it all just gets thrown away – that makes me crazy. Think how much soap is thrown away each day in hotels around the world that has just been used once or twice. Grrrr.) Then the unused shampoo and still-wrapped bars of soap can be used by the next guest, better for the planet, blah blah blah.
So, I am standing in the slightly-sad bathroom getting ready to wash up before going to bed. I unwrap the smaller, sink-side bar of soap and….
Oh. My.
I have never stood stock-still with a bar of soap pressed to my nostrils before. I went out to the room, held it up to Lloyd’s nose and his eyes widened. “What is that? Smarties?”
The scent is ‘Sugared Citrus’ and it is better than Smarties – better than baby Aspirin from our youth – better than any smell in the whole wide world!
I took it all home. All is forgiven, Ramada

Mmm… The best-smelling cleansers I’ve ever encountered were at Hershey Lodge Convention Center in Hershy, Pennsylvania. It was also a delicious smell. I would describe it as arabian jasmine flower candy.

Hey Lauren, you can buy that for regular use in your own home!

‘Priceline done us wrong, wrong, wrong…’ hehehe
What a great line for a country song!
Speaking of which, my life this past week would make a great country song! Lets see:
My dog died,
My car got totalled,
And no one came to my party.
See? But I’m having trouble making it rhym….a little help please
Brad says
You just need more lines.
Snow flied,
Lauren hotel-ed,
Go back in time with Marty.
I know the last line doesn’t make much sense, but it was taking all my effort not to write a line that used the word “farty”.
What the heck happened to your car?
Lauren says
I second the inquiry about your car.
Peggy says
Our roads in Harford Co. weren’t salted at all & only plowed one time early.
Joe the son took my car to the store & had a bad accident coming down a steep icy hill. (no, he wasn’t sleigh riding with my car…it was a road hill. No one was hurt…except for soreness)
Goodbye dog,
Goodbye car,
Goodbye youth.
Peggy says
…although pumping the breaks down the hill, he couldn’t stop, slid into an intersection…hit a car, spun a bit, and wrapped around telephone pole.
Lauren says
…and…. happy birthday. 🙁 Is he ok?
Peggy says
Yes, he’s ok…just a little sore. No one was hurt, in either car.
Lauren says
Silly me -- I see that you told us he was ok in your first comment.
Just know that I am so, so sorry. Poor girl. 🙁

I think I remember their soap on a rope from way back
