Rainbow Cake

July 10, 2010

This happened last week, but I’m just now getting around to telling it.

I’m a big fan of Rainbow Cake. I’ve wanted to make a Zebra Cake for some time, but it seemed like more fun to dye the batter different colors and go from there. Since we had children and company around, the kids helped mix it up so it was part entertainment / part dessert.

Basically, pick a good yellow cake batter, divide it up into bowls, add some food coloring, then drop 2 or 3 spoonfulls in the middle of the pan, then spoonfuls of another color in the middle of that, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera!

My thanks to Tim and Tara (first round) and Macy (second round) for their assistance. (Bethany was feeling poorly and wasn’t up to baking.)

Go, Macy!

Many dollops make good stripes.

Bake, bake, bake.

Eat, eat, eat.

It was pronounced delicious, and magical.

Unless you’re Bethany. Then just lie down until you feel better.

She fell asleep with the barf bag in ready position. Best girl ever.

It was delicious. It was as if it were made by leprechauns, and not the scary kind.

I liked the blue parts best.

That looks great Lauren! I can’t wait to try it! And while I chow down on it, I’ll listen to this:

What could be better, I ask you?
