Lloyd hurt his wrist somehow. He doesn’t remember how it happened, but I’m going to guess it’s all of his late-night superhero stuff. It’s hard work keeping a big metropolis like Seward crime-free, and sooner or later your joints are going to pay the price.
We went to Wal-Mart tonight to get a wrist brace. He tried them all on and settled for a sturdy one with a decidedly Minnie Pearl vibe. (He hasn’t taken the tag off yet.)
When he tried it on I was reminded of the two times I went bowling as a pre-teen. I was really, really bad at it, and was told I had a spaghetti wrist. Somehow or another I bought (or was given) a wrap-around wrist brace, and thought that it was the coolest thing in the world! I wore that thing all the time! Come to think of it, I might not have ever gone bowling a second time – I just wore it like some one-armed Wonder Woman. Pow! Pow!

One time, I went through a period where I was doing some data entry on my couch with a laptop. Not great ergonomics. And I developed what felt like the beginnings of carpal tunnel. So I got some kind of squeezy brace, wore it for a while, and all was well. I guess you take the pressure off so the inside irritation can calm down, and all is well. Maybe you can return the brace AND feel better. Although that feels a little like cheating…

Actually he’s looking REALLY young…and I have to hate him for that just a little bit.
When I was in high school & shortly after that, I used to have to wear a brace too when I bowled. I didn’t feel cool…I felt really nerdy…especially beings it didn’t make me a very good bowler, it only knocked down the percentage of balls that ended up in the gutter.

His superpowers are in his wrist? What’s he called? Captain Carpus?

Popular consensus around work this morning is that it is probably a fracture, but I should wait a few days to see if the pain just goes away.
This sort of advice would be better if I worked at a hospital.
Christina says
If it were fractured, it would be swollen….Hope you are better soon.
Keren says
The truth is if it were fractured, they would completely immobilize your thumb. Do you really want that? The brace looks just as good as a cast and think of all the time you will save by not waiting at the doctor’s office.
