So, here’s the story of our hotel.
Since all the siblings were descending on the parents for the weekend, we thought it would make everything easier if we just stayed in hotel rooms. There aren’t a heckuva lotta choices around Eckert, Colorado. Mark got a room at the Howard Johnson’s in Cedaredge (which is just a couple of miles up the road from Mom and Dad), and Keren got one at the Cedaredge Lodge. She had a link to their site, and it looked like something I’d like.
It’s an old 9-room motel – the kind that was popular in the …. I don’t know – ’50s? The current owners, Gary and Donna, are from Florida and have done a ton of work on it. Most of the rooms have little kitchenettes and satellite t.v. (though Keren’s room needed a different paint color), but they’re not the big deal. The big deal is what’s out back.
A creek! Apple trees! A swing! A fishing pole and a net to catch trout!
A hammock! Swing in the breeze and listen to the water!
And hold on to your Rich Inner World horses – an outdoor kitchen and living area.
Oh, my lands, I was dead and firmly planted in heaven. It was hard to breathe correctly while walking around that space. We were the only ones there on Friday morning and made breakfast – outside, with everything necessary! Seriously, this place had more appliances, pots, pans, dishes, and other kitchen stuff than mine!
When done eating, you could relax on the sofas or sit at the tables.
It was fantastic. There was a fire pit (yay!), a game room, a hot tub and a massage room (I did not partake).
Before we arrived, Donna called me to say that someone was staying longer and our original room would be full, so they needed to upgrade us to the one little apartment-style room that they had. That actually worked out perfectly since I needed to sleep upright. I was in tiny house heaven.
So, Gary and Donna, if you read this – great job with the place! They were so friendly and just the perfect hosts! (The only improvement I would suggest is re-painting room 5 a different color.)
