You can’t make stuff like this up.

August 4, 2010

I was late for my meeting tonight because a wasp was in my truck.

Just as I opened the door and slid inside, a gigantic wasp carrying another wasp slid right in with me. I screamed and ran inside to grab Lloyd. (Also the camera, of course – post subjects are precious around here).

Lauren: AHHHHH!!!!! Come outside! Come outside!! There’s a wasp in my truck! Come outside!

Lloyd (not looking up from his book): And do what?

Lauren: Help me.

I did a lot of frantic running around and picture taking. I have around eighteen pictures of the filthy inside of my truck, but none with the wasp. (Except the one in the banner above. You can kind of see him on the left. His wings are framed by that little black shape.) I wouldn’t actually sit in the truck, just stick my camera in – snap- and hope for the best.

After a couple of minutes with leaving the doors open and doing laps around the vehicle, I realized that Lloyd wasn’t outside. I stormed back in.

Lauren: I was serious, y’know.

Lloyd: What do you want me to do?

Lauren: Help me.

And so he did. He was brave enough to stick his head in the truck and actually open the window where the live wasp was resting, and out it flew.

I took pictures from a safe, safe distance.

He is very, very brave.

Down side? The ‘dead’ wasp is still somewhere in the truck, and I’m certainly not digging through the strata of junk to look for it.

First: Thank you, Lloyd, for bravely dealing with my sister’s jibblies.

Question for said sister: If Lloyd was home, couldn’t you have taken the Honda to the meeting?
