Well, a combination of factors stopped me from buying the Nikon. One was the $259 price tag – it stopped Cheap Lauren dead in her tracks. The other was that Lloyd bought the Hipster app for his iPhone, and it’s cool enough to tide me over for a while. It has a variety of old-camera-style filters that you can use, and they are fun! I still have to get the hang of it, and try not to drop his iPhone in the process. (One drawback is that I’m very shaky, so all my photos will have a bit of a blur. Oh, well.)
We went to a surplus auction this morning that was not very well attended. They were selling bunches of chairs, bunches of flat-panel monitors, bunches of filing cabinets, and then some non-bunched items that were no fun at all. (Well, except for one thing, but that’s tomorrow’s post.)
Afterward we went to Sartor Hamann to finally get the eighteenth slash on our rings, and then on to lunch at Five Guys – a pretty nice burger joint. The decor is like a diner, and their menu is wonderfully basic – you can order:
a hamburger or a little hamburger
a cheeseburger or a little cheeseburger
a bacon burger or a little bacon burger
a bacon cheeseburger or a little bacon cheeseburger
a regular fries or a large fries (regular style or cajun)
Holy. Cow. On A Bun. We each ordered a ‘little’ burger and they were ginormous, with so many toppings that I wish I would have brought a knife and fork. (A non-little burger apparently has two patties.) The order of homemade regular fries is so big we shared it, and there were still as many fries left in the bag.
They also have peanuts you can eat while you wait for your food, but we didn’t have any. Brings back too many bad memories of my life in the circus. *jibblie*

Then it’s settled: you should get an iPhone.
Those camera effects are cool.

Dang.
Well, you’ll know it when you find just the right new camera…and get that one…no matter the cost. Well, don’t get it if it’s one bajillion dollars.
What other effects does the iPhone do? Amazing…all this on a phone!

I think I’ll have to take a series of photos (probably of Lloyd) where he’s holding a sign to show what each filter does. Then I’ll remember. Hey -- that could be a post, huh?
Peggy says
Excellent idea indeed!

I say get a Nikon DSLR and make sure that the kit lens that comes with it is a VR lens. That means that it has Vibration Reduction. It helps get rid of any camera movement when you press the shutter release. I think you need that for your shaky hands.
Or you need to always carry a tripod.

I loves me the iPhone hipstamatic. So pretty these pictures!

The fun one is the Lucifer lens with black and white film. Someone should make a printer that makes you wait one minute while the film develops right before your very eyes.

You can get a pedometer app for $.99 too. And I think it will do your dishes while you are out walking.
