We went to another auction last Saturday, and they had a bunch of bikes to sell. This was the first time that I noticed a tag on many of them that said something to the effect of, “This bike looks like it’s been abandoned. If you don’t move it, we’re going to take it. Oh, and quit leaving your shoes on the stairs – someone’s going to break their neck.”
I had a bike in college that was stolen, so now at every auction I look for it. It wasn’t there (go figure), but these two beautiful specimens were. They remind me of the childhood bike I inherited from my sister long ago. It was a blue, no gears, pedal-backwards-to-brake Tornado (which my brothers convinced me was pronounced ‘Tor-NAH-do’) that she had painted beautiful white flowers twining about on the fenders. It was quite lovely, until one brother got a new airbrush and tested it out by randomly spraying a big messy stripe of gold. *sniff* I guess it was pretty ghetto by then.
(I have no need of a bike, though. Apparently there are three or four in our shed that have never been ridden by Lloyd or myself. Brad, I believe one of them is yours.)

It’s funny because I go in your shed all the time and I can’t really remember seeing bicycles. Have bicycles become invisible to me? …or do I have such an aversion to exercise that I just blank them out of my mind?
Is the bike you’re referring to my tandem bike? Maybe someone would buy it.
Lauren says
They’re to the left as you walk in, but they might be behind the giant piece of slate.
Yes, one is the tandem, but that is just too cool to sell. It would make a great piece of wall art (if we had a restaurant).

Didn’t you try to pick up Myrna for prom on a tandem bike?
Speaking of prom, what happened to the 1988 Saints site?

I love those old bikes for all the same reasons & for the nice comfy seat they used to have!
My friend had a bike just like the one in that 1st picture, & I used to ride on the back…on the fender. Hehe…I guess it was a tandum bike. It was also the bike she crashed with me on it and as I went to get up, Joann Sauers, who was behind us….ran straight over me with her bike.
Lauren says
Ha! That is a sad, yet great, story!

PS—I went to my 1st auction ever a few weeks ago. It was fun! They have it every Friday night about 5 minutes from my house.

I want a bike like that first picture.
I have a bike in our shed. It’s a home to many spiders and other creepy-crawlies. Because the seat is so uncomfortable I imagine I may never ride it again.
But that one. The one in the first picture. I love that one.
I’m a Mom now. I might even look sort of cool riding one like that.
