So, we’re in Omaha tonight so I can shop for a chair tomorrow. I went to Nebraska Furniture Mart tonight so I can prolong the agony of making a decision over two days. The problem is, I like sitting in recliners very much, I’m just not too fond of the look of them. They all look like Chairy from Pee-Wee’s Playhouse to me, and I don’t want to be sitting/sleeping on a living creature.
There’s a lounger I saw that might be an alternative. I’ll keep you posted on the agony.
Your thoughts on chairs and the like?

I think you ought to go for a recliner. I don’t like how recliners all have that kind of puffy look either. But they are very comfortable. I know from experience. I say: go with the one you dislike the least. You won’t see it while you’re sitting in it -- which will be all the time.

I don’t like the “look” of recliners at all either, so I’m with you on that one.
However, I have to agree with Brad, they are certainly more comfortable, and you won’t see it when you’re sitting in it. Which will be all the time.

I like the look of recliners because they look like a good nap. I suggest getting one that rocks, too. It’s soothing. I did not get one that swivels. Too much banging into things. Oh, one more thing. Make sure it has material between the chair and the foot rest when the foot rest is up. Otherwise, in the winter, the bottom of your legs are exposed and very cold. Even if you wrap a blanket around them.
That’s all I have to say about that.

Ours are non-puffy Lazy Boys (is that how they’re supposed to be spelled?), and are they comfortable! But you can’t have either of them!

You’re the meanest dad ever. 😉

How perceptive! You do take after your mom.

No matter what, have fun shopping! And remember looks aren’t everything…if you end up with something puffier than you prefer…that’s what afghans folded on the back are for.
Here’s hoping for puff-free success!
And here’s proof that some companies have taken the puff out of comfort:

We have a wingback chair that is also a recliner…..it has wooden claw feet and is very formal looking, but is so very comfy to read a book or take a nap in. It’s only problem is that it is a cream color, which doesn’t always look it’s best because of the black cat! So there are some none recliner looking recliners.
