Thanks for the warning….. this time.

September 22, 2011 by Lauren 7 Comments

Nebraska’s driver’s license renewal time period is every 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 14, 21 or 42 years. I know that it’s one of those because on our next birthdays Lloyd and I will be 42, and those are the factors.

The last time this event came around, there was no warning. (Or I missed it. Totally possible.) I was paying a credit card bill and noticed that the card was going to expire soon. “Hmmmm…. I wonder when my license expires?” I wondered. I checked the card and the answer was four months ago!

Seward is a tiny little town so the DMV is only open on Mondays and Thursdays. We high-tailed it down there and met with the disapproving looks from the lady who made us re-take the written test. I was paranoid we’d have to re-take the driving part, but we didn’t have to. Whew.

I am fairly sure we didn’t get renewal postcards last time. That would have been helpful.

Huh. I thought this was going to be a better story. Guess not.

(Lloyd update: He’s doing better and resting quite a bit. He still breaks out into night sweats (gross), so there’s been a lot of laundry on my end. Thanks for the pwell pwishes!)

If it were Maryland and you missed the renewal date, you would have had a late fee charged for each fifteen days past the due date, plus a handling fee, a service fee, a convenience fee, a tax-replacement fee, and a fee-taking fee. Stupid government.

HAHA — A fee taking fee! Wait, don’t give them any ideas.

I envy your sweet little town. I once got a ticket for not changing the address on my license within 30 days of actually moving. (I was pulled over for speeding or something…no ticket for that, but $30. for the address thing.)

You get a reminder 3 months in advance? And it’s on such pretty paper, too.

      Would that paper be salmon-colored?

I don’t think salmons can color.

Made me check my driver’s license.
I have two more years. Yay!!

    P. S. Thinking of you lots, Lloyd. Everyone here is sneezing, coughing and blowing their nose. But there is LOTS of smoke in the air, so I think it’s allergies.
