My Putterware order arrived (thank you, Beth) – six of those little midget containers that hold 2 ounces. I love the idea, but they have two problems:
1. They smell like smoke. Bleh. I seem to remember items at the party smelling like smoke, which was a turn-off. Note to sellers: Do not store your wares in your smokey home.
2. I can’t get the lids on! Is is just me? I know these things are supposed to fit tightly, but I did some personal damage to my hands just getting that one lid to snap completely. Is this normal? Will they stretch out with use?
Help! I’m new to this!

Lauren -- I’m a friend of Rachel & Mark -- and have silently read & enjoyed your blog for years. I now am compelled to write, as I use to sell Putterware and am a lifelong fan of it. The new products are often very difficult at first to seal, especially the little ones. Soak the seals in hot/warm water for a little while, then pull them out and put them on right away. Also -- use your thumbs and walk the seal around. Finally -- if they smell and washing them doesn’t take care of it, you can put a little newspaper inside them & seal them (and around them if necessary) for ~24 hrs and it should absorb the smell. Good luck.

Hi, Becky!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for the advice! I thought it probably must be some ‘wear the new shoes for a while’ situation, but the only Putterware I have comes from the thrift store, where it’s plenty old.
Hooray! Becky’s here!

You could put meats and cheeses inside them for delicious smoky treats. Mmm… Smoked Gouda…

Whatcha gonna store in those little putterwares?
Lloyd says
They look like they would be just right for storing Lauren’s urine samples.
Peggy says
I think urine trouble for saying that.
Deborah says
They give me gallon containers for my urine.
Jihl says
Eww.
Thanks for the newspaper tip, Becky. I think I’m gonna need it, too…

They are so cute! And I know once you get them working & non-smelly you will come up with the coolest, bestest ideas for them…you lover of small containers you!!

If you can imagine the smoke smell absorbed by your tiny cups…I don’t know, octupled?…I had 4 microwave-sized boxes brought into my living room…and promplty taken out the the porch upon the consultant’s departure, because the horrific smell was sure to cause some sort of second-hand-smoke-induced lung cancer…
Thankfully I have found that just allowing it to air out and then washing it took all my smoke-i-ness away.
Sorry. Sheesh.
And that warm-water idea, genius!

Actually, that’d be third-hand smoke (smoke on inanimate objects which infects the breather). Apparently it’s dangerous and is slated to be the next big issue in anti-smoking legislation. Next thing you know, we’ll be getting sick for being on the same PLANET as someone who smokes. (Sorry, there goes my inner libertarian-need to stuff her back in my shoes every so often.)

I read the party post and there was no mention of margaritas until the 2nd to last comment.
You were serving alcohol? Why wasn’t I invited?

you probably would have enjoyed making burping sounds with the putterware too!
