I have an iPod, sorta. A couple of summers ago Lloyd traded his old iPhone for an iPod that my center’s school-age program can use in the summer. (They have a million things to keep track of during the day and the calender function is useful for that.)
Anyway, during the school year I bring it home and mess around with it. Lately I’ve been getting trashed at playing Words With Friends. I’ve only played against Lloyd and my cousin, but I am really, really bad at it. My guess? Everyone else is cheating.
If you have an iPod, iPad or an iPhone, though, you must immediately spend the 99 cents on the Autoharp app. Do you know what an autoharp is? It’s a harp-like instrument from long ago that has these bars that goes across all the strings. Each bar is marked with a button that says its chord. You push the button, strum the strings – instant music chords! It’s easier than playing a ukulele.
Well, the app gives you all the nostalgia and satisfaction of playing an autoharp without the bulk or smell of the 70’s. It is so fun!
Remember: C, F, G, C. Those are the only chords you’ll ever need to know.
(Unless you’d like G, C, D, G. Repeat as needed.)

I’ve had my iPhone for two months now. I’ve only bought one app. It’s a little puzzle game that I can pass time with if I’m waiting in line or something.
When I’m at home, I’m on the internet or I’m watching TV or I’m playing Xbox. I don’t even think about taking out my phone to play with it. Is something wrong with me?
Lauren says
Nothing is wrong with you. I only started playing with it because of a game recommendation on a website I read. (I’m also terrible at that game.)
Lloyd says
Not even a flashlight app? That’s half the reason for having a smartphone right there.
Peggy says
What is a flashlight app?
I just recently received a Kindle Fire and I think it can do things. But I haven’t figured it out yet. Can you play games on it? Can you get a flashlight app for it?
Lloyd says
On lots of phones that have cameras (with flashes) you can control the flash separately from the camera. Instead of having it “flash”, you can just turn it on like a really bright LED.

Used my flashlight app at the weirdly dark restaurant we went to Saturday…..it may be that my eyesight is failing, since everyone else seemed to be able to read the menu just fine! LOL!
Mary Ellen says
Amen to that !

Ahhhhhh……the horror!! That’s the harp that Mrs. Crow said I could play instead of being in the chorus if I kept insisting on trying out. (this was after year 2 of being denied being in the elementary school chorus) I wanted to sing! So I’ve hated that harp ever since. Maybe it’s time to let by gones be by gones.

That harp (a real one--not the ipod) gave me the freedom to be a musical GENIUS in the classroom. I got an “Excellence in Musical Education” certificate because of that and because of Kristi’s recorded piano playing.
