I made some dinner Sunday night. (For those of you who regularly cook that might not be such a big deal, but I haven’t cooked much in quite a while. Saturday night’s dinner was peanut butter sandwiches on stale bread – a real high point.)
Anyway, I made some chicken-and-rice thing where the last step was to turn off the heat and leave it covered for five minutes.
Sooooo….. if you leave it covered for longer than five minutes – say, fifteen? – the moisture and the air (that has now contracted) inside will create a vacuum between the pan and lid, and you will be trying to pry it off like an idiot. Eventually you will think about heating up the air inside – which is the right thing to do – but you will scorch your rice.
Way to go, you. Shoulda just had peanut butter.
