I made some dinner Sunday night. (For those of you who regularly cook that might not be such a big deal, but I haven’t cooked much in quite a while. Saturday night’s dinner was peanut butter sandwiches on stale bread – a real high point.)
Anyway, I made some chicken-and-rice thing where the last step was to turn off the heat and leave it covered for five minutes.
Sooooo….. if you leave it covered for longer than five minutes – say, fifteen? – the moisture and the air (that has now contracted) inside will create a vacuum between the pan and lid, and you will be trying to pry it off like an idiot. Eventually you will think about heating up the air inside – which is the right thing to do – but you will scorch your rice.
Way to go, you. Shoulda just had peanut butter.
Brad says
You could have gotten inside an iron lung and lowered the air pressure until the lid pulled off.
Peggy says
Ha! Laughing with you, not at you. I bet if you would have picked up the entire pan by only the little black thing on the lid over one of your favorite outfits, the lid would have popped off.
Lauren says
Ha! You’re right. I did try to pull it by the handle, and I’m pretty sure if I would have turned it upside down it wouldn’t have popped off, but I wasn’t confident enough to sacrifice my dinner.
Lloyd says
It tasted delicious. Like it was trapped in a void and had to develop new tastes to defend itself from the Vorgons.
