Today was a good day. It started at midnight when Lloyd and Brad gave me a ride to the new completely-unfindable Amtrak station in Lincoln. I am so glad that someone at my meeting Tuesday night gave me the heads-up that there even was a new station, or I would have been in trouble. At one point I thought we were in such a bad neighborhood we were going to get murdered.
Being lost didn’t make us too late, since the train was an hour behind schedule. Once on, I got settled in for the night, but forgot that in addition to the footrest that they have for the coach seats, there is also a leg rest that pops out to support your calves. That makes a bit of a difference in comfort. It wasn’t a big deal, though, since I had room to stretch out over two seats and slept just fine.
I met up with my sister and her boys in Denver. It was so great! We talked and had snacks and lunch and it was wonderfully relaxing. Jacob understood how to make the legrest work.
Exciting story: While I was sleeping, there was a robbery on the train! A young lady was drunk and broke into the club car snack/beverage section to steal beer and wine. She apparently made a big mess, but worst of all – she broke the coffee machine! I think all the passengers wanted to harm her strictly for that. Once everyone heard about her caper, we all said the same thing – “When you rob a train, where do you think you’re going to go? You’re on a train.” She was picked up in Denver and I felt badly for her. A night of stupidity ruined our trip and her life. Dumb kid.
