Hey, Karla – remember this?

August 6, 2012

Karla was (and I assume, still is) a great photographer. In college she had a huge, complicated, big-lensed camera that used an ancient medium called ‘film’ to make her cool shots. We still have a couple of matted photos she did, and also this one. She needed to do a project for a class, so I got to be her subject. Woo-hoo! Project Runway, here I come!

I remember this: it was in the chapel in David dorm. I had to change poses and then – suffering of sufferings – hold still while the light flashed. Then we had to wait until she developed it, which was not instantaneous. When the print was done – magic!!

I love listening to myself play. And also loiter around myself without leaving a tip. Cheapskate me.

Cameras were cooler then. As were high-waisted acid-washed jeans.

    You look so pensive, Lauren.

I wonder if digital cameras can do multiple exposures. There’s probably an app for that or something.

Ah yes….film, I remember it well! And if you didn’t have a Karla, you had to drop it off at one of the Kodak places & wait several days for it to be developed. Then pay a load of money for a bunch of out of focus pictures. Fun times!

    loiter around myself. HA!!

I do remember that! It was for my photography class -- we were in David chapel with the lights off. The camera shutter was open and the film was exposed when the flash went off. We did 3 exposures before I advanced the film. That was fun! 🙂 I don’t remember how many of those we did in hopes of one good one.

Brad, there’s more than a app for multiple exposure with digital pictures -- there’s Photoshop!
