I don’t want to be disrespectful and make fun of a church’s decor, but I have to share this weird painting from this past weekend.
Ignore the statue. That is a different topic.
I couldn’t figure out if this was a religious painting or not. it was tough to decode the theme. See those crazy animal eyes? It’s like Noah’s Ark was going to be populated with demon-possessed creatures, which would kind of defeat the whole purpose.
But wait – there are the …. angels? Maybe this is a Creation painting and the animals are just super-surprised to be spoken into existence. “Hey, weren’t we nothing a little bit ago?”
But then…… There is the left side of the painting.
What the what? Is that Columbus?!? Is this painting some sort of flash mob???
I will feel badly if this turns out to be some classic and I am an ignorant idiot. It will be like the time Kathryn and I went to the museum in Munich and were snickering at the paintings, then we read the plaques and realized that they were real paintings by the masters. To be fair, we were young and stupid.
That’s got to be some famous painting of some kind. I just spent a while searching for it and couldn’t find anything though. Sorry. You would think someone would put that on the internet under “crazy eyes lion”.

Yeah, I had to change that to Munich. I shouldn’t type while watching television.
LOL. Read this aloud to the fam this morning… so funny! And… I stopped at “Moscow” too, thinking, “I knew they went to Germany, but Russia? I must have missed that.”
How bizzarre!! Maybe the animals look like that because they know they’re in the wrong painting.

What do you suppose the “crazy eyed lions” are looking at…..must be very, very scary? Do I really look that scary? 🙂
The chair reflection is interesting in it. What about the animals are saying not us, eat the Turkey!
I saw the same painting at a thrift store in Salem, Oregon. I too was struck by its awkwardness, took a picture of it and zoomed in for a closer look. The kid picking the cows nose was interesting and I’m not sure what’s happening between the goat and the lamb. I’m still trying to figure out who painted it – stumbled onto your blog while looking. Has anyone told you who painted it? I feel like I have seen it before.
I will have to go back to the church sometime and see if it has a signature. I have no idea!
i found that picture at a thrift store also, i took a picture of it with my phone as for how weird it was. i was looking for who painted it also then stumbled across your post… if you find out who or what this picture is called please let me know.
