Well, at the time of this writing I’m just about ready to turn out the lights. So far there have been 104 Trick-or Treaters ringing our bell. I bought two 48-count containers of Laffy Taffy ropes, but when I opened them to sample one, it was hard! I was worried about hurting a tooth, but it was too late to go buy more. So every kid who trick-or-treated here got the super-fun speech of, “These are strangely hard. DON’T bite into it when you get home. Break it up in little pieces and suck on them.” Nothing but Halloween joy coming from this house. (I had to send Lloyd out for extra candy anyway, so that could have been avoided. Sorry, children.)
In case you’re wondering how our not-made-of-paper loft is coming along, you can check our Facebook Album. The school-age kids are helping with this, and yes, they are doing 90% of the work. So far we have completed the base, except for adding the wheels. While this is very good for character building, it is going sooo. slowly. The other day I spent nearly an hour and a half working with them and we managed to get four boards cut. (deep breath) That’s ok – it’s character building and they will have ownership for it. (deep breath)
Today I rushed things along. I needed to leave work shortly after five so I could drag the Halloween decorations out, so I did quite a bit by myself, and let them help with the final drilling. As a result, the roof ‘skeleton’ is actually done, instead of taking two weeks. Tomorrow – we make the wall posts!
