I was helping Lloyd wrap a giant box for his family gift exchange. There was a time, back in my Martha Stewart-worship days, when I was a very good gift wrapper.

Well, that mojo is gone.

The box was huge, the paper was too short, and the pieces I was patching with were not the right size. Lloyd, who was tired of handing me pieces of tape, tried to comfort me by saying, “Just leave it. They’ll just think that I wrapped it.”

Ouch. Ouch ouch ouch.

I must admit, I couldn’t care less about gift wrapping. No matter how pretty it looks the wrapping is, it is crumpled into a ball in a matter of seconds!
The exception is baby showers. There the gifts are on display and everyone ooohs and aaahs. There’s a lot of pressure -- and still my gifts look pretty pathetic.

sorry about the horrible sentence there. I also couldn’t care less about proper sentence structure or proofreading (at least today.)

I’m supposed to wrap some Secret Santa gifts today, but all the paper that’s been building up in my basement for years is now gone. Maybe I’ll use aluminum foil or a trash bag or something.

A pastor friend told me how his wife complained that he never wrapped the presents he gave her. So, he finally wrapped the one he’d just given her in newspaper.

Too late for Sunday comic pages?

I hate, hate, hate wrapping presents! Gift bags all the way! In fact, Zizzer just asked if Santa is going to leave her presents at our house. I said that he was (although this kills me, since we’ve never done the whole Santa thing). She exclaimed excitedly about getting to open presents, and I told her that when Santa leaves presents here, he never wraps them… he just sets them out in the playroom, ready to play. She told me that she’s never heard of Santa not wrapping presents before. Live and learn, kid. Live and learn.

Ha! Thank you for the laughs and the sympathy, all. I am in the right group of people. 🙂

It looks just fine! Whenever I am short of paper on one side, I just set the package on that side. And viola…perfection!

I went through a period where I would not waste my money on paper. A pretty teatowel, a piece of pretty material, Did you know that pot scrubbers make bows?
