The wind beneath my whiskers

May 18, 2014 by Lauren 5 Comments

My poor cats. They will never get to go outside because I am riddled with paranoia and would worry about all the harm they would come to (or havoc they would wreak), so they must suffer because of my craziness. I can’t even leave the windows open for them to see the outside because I’m pretty sure that Ralph could just push the screen out with one paw. (Hulk smash.)

I’ve seen window ‘veranda’ things for cats before, so once again I thought, “How hard could it be?” Fortunately, I was putting stuff away today and came across this wire basket, which made the whole process much easier than actually building something.

Problem? Too big for the window.

Solution? Bend the wires. Bend the wires in lots of places. Curse under your breath because holy cow – haven’t I bent a bazillion wires and this thing still won’t fit through the *%$# window??

One bazillion wire bends, three binder clips and two blisters later, Emme was able to look up and see the sky.

Huh. Windier than she thought.

This’ll do for now. Until the bugs start coming in, then it is back to pretending windows are televisions that are always playing the same nature show.

Heh. Didn’t Cricket go out on the roof from that window?

And don’t worry about them not going out. There are lots of cats who live their lives that way. If I would let Gus go out, he’d get sunburned.

Many a cat has exited our windows to the roof. Well, three cats.

      Thanks!

Jill, yeah, they’re ok in here, but they could surely use some exercise. Maybe a kitty treadmill?

Ah Lauren not to worry. Cats are actually better off being indoors. Truly. Although fresh air does them good, being inside is better. Besides if all they have ever known is inside, then they don’t know any better. 🙂
