My parents live on the side of Grand Mesa, the world’s largest tabletop mountain. We used to camp there all the time when we were kids, and my mom suggested we go up for a picnic lunch on Monday. It was an excellent suggestion.
We drove to Island Lake, just about half an hour away. Some people were getting into some tiny one-man floating boat-things. I admired their clever construction.
They also have new-fangled fish-cleaning stations, which are pretty snazzy. They have cutting boards, drains, and a big disposal area in the middle.
Our picnic was top notch. Sandwiches, chips, carrots, strawberries, and a view that couldn’t be beat.
Then we drove to a place I’d never been – Land o’ Lakes, and they’re not talking about the butter. It’s a little spot where you park your car and hike up a bit to a place where you can see many of the lakes on the Mesa. We were up pretty high anyway, and there is still snow! Want some?
It’s not a long walk, but it’s a ways up, and I was glad we stopped for a few rests. It was worth it, though:
Back at the house, we got ready for some visitors:
Mark, Rachel and Matthew are here to visit! What a wonderful day!
