Lloyd wanted to go to the state fair on Saturday, so I tagged along. I figured a funnel cake would be part of the deal, so ok.
The fair has moved out to Grand Island, so this was the first time we’d seen the grounds. It’s set up pretty nicely – lots of big buildings that house the exhibits and animals, and some cool play places outside. We took lots of pictures of the natural playground so I can write this trip off on our taxes. Cha-ching!
This room was awesome. The photo doesn’t do it justice, but there was a waterfall that became a lazy river. It is perfect for water play. Do you see the ‘tree’? There were several of those – they are just covered pillars. Very cool indeed.
This building had a bunch of learning exhibits. One was about sugar beets. Did you know that one sugar beet is about a foot long, weighs about a pound, and once processed, yields a measly teaspoon of sugar? Seriously? All that energy that goes into growing, transporting and processing it for one teaspoon? I am scaling back my sugar intake.
The thing Lloyd is standing by shows how the elevation changes across Nebraska. From west to east we go down about 4,000 feet. From the east edge of the state to the east edge of the nation, we only go down about 900. Crazy.
This was the best part by far. They have a gondola that takes you (one-way per ticket) across the grounds. We passed right by the food alley and several buildings. It was wonderfully calm and quiet. I could have ridden that all day.
So there you have it. Lloyd, I might go to the state fair again with you next year.
