I have always loved pockets. In elementary school, my favorite coat was the one that had several pockets. I think…. six? My big winter down coat has nine! Nine! And if you’ve never seen the ScotteVest line? Well, now we’re talkin’ pockets.
Tuesday’s problem with losing my wallet is twofold: First, women’s pants are now being produced with impossibly tiny, if not fake, pockets. The pants I was wearing had no back pocket – just a phony flap. The front pockets didn’t hold anything either. Second, the coat I was wearing just has slash pockets on the side. They hold a lot, but it would be easy for something to fall out. I worry.
(Ok, neither of those things are why I left my wallet at the self-checkout, but just pretend with me, ok?)
I decided that my coat needed a secure pocket. However, unwilling to damage the coat or learn how to sew zippers, I cut up an old purse-like thing and stitched it inside. It has a previous life as an interior pocket in a ukulele case.
Now, though, it is a secure place for my phone and wallet, and a conversation piece if I ever wear the coat in ‘reversible’ mode.
