This house was built sometime in the 1930’s (1932, I think), and there are several fun, fun things about an 80-some-year-old house. For instance, the door handle comes super-loose every so often. It hasn’t come off yet, so that’s a good thing.
Another thing? The basement floor drain dries out every so often, filling your home with the scent of sewage. When that happens when your in-laws come in, that is absolutely fantastic. Faaaaantastic.
Also, when there is a perpetual leak in your ceiling around the chimney that persists even after you have it fixed? That is awesome. The repair guy even got back to me to check to see how it was doing, and now we have to face up to the fact that we are going to have to do some serious roof work. I vote for just taking it off completely. It’ll be like camping!!
