When I arrive at school, there are just a handful of children in the ‘morning room’. Mr. Wesly takes the school-age children down to their room at 7:00, but there is one school-age boy who stays with me so the other staff won’t lose their sanity due to his behavior to help me with the little ones.
Last week, he taught me how to play Go Fish. (I know. I never learned. Cards are not my thing.) He and I play a couple of games each morning. Sometimes another school-age child stays for a game, and there are even a couple of the preschoolers that know how to play, too. “Do you have a K?” Today was hilarious because one of the toddlers wanted to try. We had all of her cards spread out on the table so we could help her, but all she wanted to do was say ‘goldfish’ whenever her turn came around.
The funniest part? We play with a deck of Disney princess cards. That tough young man patiently helping those adorable preschool girls with their princess cards. It’s a good way to start the day.
