Well, it is 97% over. If it weren’t for our family and friends, this would have been a disaster. An enormous ‘thank you’ to our peeps!
Lloyd was brilliant. He took the bull by the horns and made this whole mess workable. Sam was fantastic. He was the other half of the big get-‘er-done Boss Crew. Gracen and Anna were amazing. They braved the damp cold on Friday and helped organize everything. Annette and Elaine were invaluable. They helped us get a grasp on what things should cost. Kate, Beth, Deborah, Nancy, Jeff, Gretchen, and Rachel helped whether they volunteered to or not. I am so grateful!
Friday was cold, and I actually spent the first hour trying to get buyers to not run over the children that were getting picked up.
Since we couldn’t use the parking lot, sales were on the playground and I part of the police parking lot. The police were such awesome neighbors for this!
Saturday was bright and sunny, and we were able to move everything out to the parking lot. Lloyd was the expert haggler, and we would have made much, much less money had he not stood his ground.
It helped that credit cards were accepted. This was no ordinary garage sale. The Marxhausen family donated so many items: unique bits of art, furniture, antiques. It was amazing.
Our troopers put in a full day Saturday. Sam wins the prize for most entertaining salesman. Here’s a photo of a rare rest. They never sat down before 2:00.
All those glowing words aside, I am NEVER doing anything like this again. My body and mind are very, very angry at me. I am also angry at my body, so there’s that. Maybe we’ll be on speaking terms again someday, but it’s not likely.
