Our stupid trash cabinet has been on a steady decline for years, and in the past couple of months, it became impossible to repair. The door hinge wouldn’t hold or stay adjusted for longer than a day. I made a terrible bracket to help, but it was no good. The door has been hanging at a listless angle for a loooong time. It didn’t help that if the cabinet door was open and you also opened the dishwasher door, they would catch on each other and further wreck the whole system.
I ordered one of those pull-out rail systems that attaches directly to the door and the whole shebang slides out, and last night I decided it was time to install it.
That was not smart. Do not begin a project when you are ready to go to bed.
The installment was smooth, but the instructions were ‘unclear’. I had to unscrew the base and move everything back about an inch.
It was kind of downhill from there. I put bolts on backwards, forgot to take the protective backing off the double-sided tape and had trouble getting the door to hold still while I was screwing it to the bracket. After much huffing, Lloyd looked up from his reading and asked if I needed help.
I said ‘no’.
He read the situation correctly and came over to hold the door still for me. It was all done. We cleaned up, put tools away…
… closed the door…. and it was crooked. Dang it!!! Not exactly the same angle as before, but enough to make me mad. I gave up and wrote my cranky post.
In the clear light of morning, I adjusted it and now it is much better.
The end.
