(I believe that title will make Brad mad.)
Sam sent me a text this week saying that he wanted to be Gandalf for Halloween and he wanted help. Dang it, Sam! I was going to put off fixing my water damage this weekend.
I looked at some photos online for inspiration. Apparently, I would need a bunch of gray fabric.
I had some gray fabric at school, but a trip to Etcetera, our local thrift store, provided a twin sheet set and a 4XL sweatshirt. Perfect.
The sweatshirt? Practically a wizard hat already. Just look at that sleeve:
Snip snip snip, sew sew sew. Boom: Cone.
I traced a paper circle and tacked it all together.
Then I soaked it in water gravy (cornstarch boiled in water) and let it dry.
The sheets seemed to be a no-brainer for the robe. Heck, the pillow case was practically a sleeve already, but there was only one. (I made the other sleeve. That seemed easier than cutting off someone’s arm.)
The elastic on the fitted sheet made it all billowy, as a wizard’s robe should be. However, mistakes were made and it did not go as smoothly as it should have. Oh well. Don’t ask for help unless you are ok with Laurening.
The local Dollar General had a beaded mask and I cut the face away. (Gross.)
Lloyd was a willing dress form, and got to be the first to wear it, too. (The beard is in a ponytail because Sam gets to deal with that nightmare.) It needs to be trimmed at the bottom, but that’s a tailoring matter.

That is a great costume! I’m so glad Sam didn’t ask for an orc.
Brad says
Holy cow! That’s great! Now make me a Doctor Strange outfit. No, wait… I don’t have the hair for it… Uh… One Punch Man?
Brad says
Heh. And I didn’t get mad. You mixed universes though 😉

Marvelous, amazing job Lauren. Lloyd Sr knew it was Gandalf even without reading it. Sam you are lucky. I am glad you showed us Lloyd
