So, this week Lloyd and I are turning fifty, so we had a shin-dig!
Before we planned it, I had wondered if there could be some sort of clever tie-in for such a momentous time, and as it turns out, the Roman numeral for ‘50’ is ‘L’! (I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but our names both start with L.) Lloyd wanted to have people over to the house, but I am mortified at how awful my super-comfortable living room furniture is. We wound up renting a loft in Seward (see how it starts with ‘L’?) owned by a local winery. The space was gorgeous and I couldn’t get over it.
Early Saturday morning, we ran our first batch of things to the loft, then went with Sam to Lincoln for a cheese and bread run. (The theme of the party was ‘Weird Cheese”.)
Above you’ll see the kitchen, littered with some of the things from our home. Below, you’ll see the seating area. What you cannot see is my total desire to reside there permanently. I joked that we just need to do this at home: rip off the drywall to get to the exposed brick. (I know it’s not as funny as I think it is, but I had to type it.)
Lloyd and I did some more setting up in the afternoon, but then I had to leave to get ready for the CDC’s Advent service. I left some detailed notes for Lloyd to follow. I had specific thoughts about where things should go.
Here’s a gander at just SOME of the cheese we had. By the way, we had way too much cheese. If something’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing.
I didn’t need to worry about leaving directions. While I was at church, Sam and Beth came to help Lloyd set up, and they did a bang-job!
Be perfect! Cheese, fruit, sausages, crackers, bread, butter, jams, wine, and cute people.
The island was so huge, it was hard to get a picture of everything.
I forgot to mention that Lloyd brought ALL the alcohol in our house. He expressly said that he wanted there to be a ton of alcohol there. Not that we were going to drink it all, he just wanted a bunch of bottles. I think he was successful!
I tried getting a panorama photo, but it looks like the room is longer and darker than it was. Still cool. We had lots of people and lots of fun. I am so thankful for everyone who was there!
Lloyd and I stayed the night, and then we had most of the crew come back for a breakfast party on Sunday morning. (Everyone was going to the school service at 5 p.m.) We cooked up some eggs to eat with leftover bread and cheese and it was delightful!
For nearly every event in my life, I calculate how many hours until it will be over. “In twelve hours this will all be over” – that kind of thing. This was one event that I was quite wistful to have end. Many thanks to all the people who made it fun!
