It’s time for a New Year’s Resolutions post. I am well aware that, as in many past years, my good intentions will wane after a bit, but I’m still gung-ho for establishing some new habits.
At work, I have a notebook where I write down everything that needs to be accomplished for the day, both in and out of the classroom. I make a little square beside each item because it’s more satisfying to make an ‘x’ in the box rather than cross the item off the list. When I go home, I’m pretty satisfied if 80% of the items are accomplished. The next day I might re-write the unfinished items on the ‘today’ page, or realize that they don’t really need to get done. It’s a workable system for me.
I wondered about a system like that for home. I have some habits that need to be established – like the stuff I’m supposed to do to care for my dry eyes – and some big projects that I’d like to accomplish this year. I spent the past three years pretty invested at work, so I think I may channel some of that energy into some home projects.
For the big projects, I’ve broken them down into tiny tasks. (I want to post about a couple of those tasks, so I figured I’d better explain the system.) My thought is that even if I don’t get the whole project done this year, I’ll be that much closer to it for next year. As you can see, the bar is set super-low. If I get one Big Project done this year, I will consider it a success!
Here’s to a stab at making progress:
You’ll probably get sick of those pages over the next few days, but hey – that’s what I’ve got going on. 🙂
