I am usually done with my recording and editing by lunchtime, so my afternoons have been spent doing various upkeep jobs. On Thursday, the Fire Marshal stopped by for his inspection and we were cited for a few things. The facilities manager is taking care of them, but one of them is my baby.
in the toddler room, they have a little nook by their playground door. They keep their cots there, but they were stored in front of one of the fire pulls, which is a no-no. Before the inspection, one of the teachers said that they were having trouble with the safety gate, too. (It’s a little wooden half-door that keeps them out of the nook.) Well, the fire marshal’s thing bumped all this up the priority list. The problem is that we are not super flush with cash right now, so lots of these kinds of projects have involved my using up stuff from the basement and repurposing things.
Case in point: the Big Grey Thing.
Several years ago we had a toddler teacher who built a big giant grey enclosure. it was ugly and weird, but I admired that she made it herself. After she left it was moved to the basement and has been holding some junk. It is just about the right size for what we need, and someday when we have more money and more time somebody with more skill can build this correctly. The plan is to have an enclosure in the actual room for the cots, and attach the little gate to that enclosure to make the gate sturdier.
It was too tall and needed to be cut down. Woo hoo! I was careful!
It needed a back, and again I had to be resourceful with what we had. This was an old photo prop from a fall festival years ago.
So, it’s coming along. I’ll keep you posted.
